Australia is expanding pathways for Permanent Residency through employer sponsorship! The new policy is expected to be introduced on November 25th 2023!
Unlike the previous restrictions on the short-term Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), which required a third renewals to be applied for from outside of Australia, the new policy will allow applicants on a short-term subclass 482 visa to apply for a third-stage renewal from within the country without needing to leave.
Holders of both the short-term and Labour Agreement stream of the subclass 482 visa will now be eligible for employer-sponsored/nominated positions through Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
Nominated occupations will no longer be restricted to the Skilled Occupation List, as long as the occupation is on the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) list, and nominees must continue working in their nominated occupation under the 482 visas.
The work experience requirement prior to applying for an employer-sponsored/nominated or regional employer-sponsored/nominated permanent visa has been reduced to at least two years of work in the past three years for the nominating employer.
The temporary age exemption policy during the COVID period is being repealed, but exemptions will still be supported for medical professionals working in remote areas and high-income earners to assist with their employer-sponsored applications.
